# Prepare a period close

Adopt [source grounding](../../core/std/source-grounding.md) and [result](../../core/std/result.md). Produce the caller's close pack for an identified entity or entity set, period, ledger revision and reporting basis. The caller supplies the ledger and chart, reconciliation and recognition populations, accounting and materiality policies, evidence access and cutoff, required schedules and statements, close responsibilities, and output location. Required inaccessible records remain visible close limitations.

Construct the adjusted trial balance, supporting reconciliations and schedules, proposed journal package, and financial explanation required by the commission. Preserve the original ledger. Identify opening balances, period postings, adjustments, closing balances and any prior-period corrections separately. Every source account and proposed adjustment must map into the close without unexplained additions or omissions; debit/credit equality and statement tie-outs are necessary numerical evidence, not sufficient proof of a sound close.

The caller may supply workstream contracts for named populations, such as cash reconciliation, recognition or estimates. Once selected, invoke each with the shared entity, period, original ledger revision, policy and evidence boundary, plus its own population and distinct output location. Preserve each contract's origin and adoptions. Its result supplies proposed conclusions and entries to the integration; it does not change shared inputs for a sibling. Without selected workers the executor performs the required work directly and chooses its method.

Resolve the interaction among workstreams: an invoice, payment and accrual may describe one economic event; each must be accounted for without duplicate recognition. Retain conflicts between conclusions, compare their policy and factual bases, and identify unresolved decisions instead of letting invocation order select a winner. Final schedules must use the same accepted proposed adjustment set and reconcile back to each workstream. If a changed fact requires revision, retain the earlier result and identify the affected outputs. Do not describe unfinished selected workers as completed close evidence.

Invoke [journal package](journal-package.md) for the supported adjustments, binding the original ledger and caller's draft boundary. Provide an account-level bridge to the adjusted trial balance, the requested statements, evidence references and calculation trail. Distinguish prepared, supported, unresolved and approved items using the caller's actual evidence; do not invent signoffs. Account for material unresolved items by amount or bounded uncertainty, affected statement, needed evidence and owner if supplied. A stated materiality threshold does not remove the duty to retain known exceptions.

The result states what is ready for the caller's intended use, outstanding close requirements and observed effects. Preparation does not lock a period, post entries, certify statements or file a return. If those effects are expressly composed, their actual fulfillment and any incomplete effects remain part of the overall close status.
